Abstract

The "Horizontal Basalts" in the Agulo area are made up of a more than 600m thick succession of basaltie flows that filled a SW-NE trending paleo-valley. Compositions vary between picrite and trachybasalt. The lithologic and geochemical variability of these rocks indicates that they were generated mainly by fractional crystalization. The recognition of several evolution cycles suggests the involvement of other processes that modify the general fractional crystallization trend.
