Abstract
En la presente tesis doctoral, pretendemos acercarnos a tres testimonios autógrafos de conversión acaecidos en París en la primera mitad del siglo XX. Son, por orden cronológico de escritura: Ma conversion de Paul Claudel, El Hecho Extraordinario de Manuel García Morente y Dieu existe de André Frossard. Componen tres ejemplos de conversiones al catolicismo súbitas, desde posiciones ateas o agnósticas, por medio de una experiencia de revelación inexplicable. Aunque relatando un acontecimiento análogo, adoptan formatos distintos: artículo, epístola, libro. Nuestro propósito ha sido analizar los tres textos de la forma más exhaustiva posible. Para ello, en primer lugar hemos establecido un esquema fenomenológico, aplicable tanto a nuestros casos, como a cualquier otro de conversión súbita. Se establece una serie de elementos que comparten estos fenómenos, siempre desde la perspectiva del protagonista y su relato autógrafo al respecto. Se presenta aquí la intuición como forma legítima de conocimiento y la legitimidad de la percepción inmanente. También algunas de las imágenes arquetípicas: lo inefable, el Nuevo Hombre, el maravillamiento, etcétera. A través de estos epifenómenos que se repiten, podemos configurar la máxima aproximación al elemento que está en la génesis, de otra forma inalcanzable. Abordamos independientemente, y siguiendo el esquema más conveniente en cada caso, los tres testimonios, patentando lo que tienen en común y su representación literaria desde en un enfoque comparativo. Para, finalmente, dirigirnos hacia una posible catalogación y definición de un subgénero dentro de la autobiografía: el testimonio de conversión súbita. Nos sustentamos en la coincidencia de procedimientos, emanados orgánicamente del asunto tratado y del propósito perseguido. Pese a la heterogeneidad de los tres textos analizados, proponemos una serie de elementos idénticos, como la organización o el tratamiento, que nos hablan de una escritura impuesta por la experiencia. Por consiguiente, tanto a nivel filosófico como filológico, nos encontramos ante una experiencia que se impone en su donación y obliga a un modo narrativo concreto
In this thesis, we try to understand what happened with three autographed testimonies of conversion that occurred in Paris in the first half of the twentieth century. The works are presented in chronological order: Ma conversion of Paul Claudel, El Hecho Extraordinario of Manuel García Morente and Dieu existe of André Frossard. Joined together are three examples of a sudden conversion to Catholicism, from an atheistic or agnostic perspective which happened through an experience or unexplained revelation. While recounting a similar event, they adopt different formats: article, letter or book. Our purpose was to analyze the three texts as thoroughly as possible. To do this, first we established a phenomenological scheme, applicable to our cases just like any other sudden conversion that occurs. There are a number of elements that share these phenomena, always from the perspective of the protagonist and his autograph story. Intuition is presented here as a legitimate form of knowledge and legitimacy of immanent perception. Also, some of the archetypal images: the ineffable, the New Man, marveling, and so on. Through these epiphenomena that are repeated, we can figure the closest approach to the element that is at the origin, is otherwise unattainable. We addressed independently, and following the most convenient outline in each case, the three witnesses, patenting what they have in common and its literary representation from a comparative approach. To finally head towards a possible cataloging and defining a subgenre of autobiography: the testimony of sudden conversion, we sustain ourselves on matching procedures, naturally emanating from the topic and the intended purpose. Despite the heterogeneity of the three texts analyzed, we propose a series of identical elements, such as organizing or treatment, which speak of a script imposed by experience. Therefore, both at a philosophical and philological level, we face an experience that prevail in their donation which requires a particular narrative mode.
