Abstract
The QALY -quality adjusted life years- approach assumes that each additional QALY has the same social value. The implications of this approach regarding distributive equity have been criticised. In this paper we identify different distributive preferences held by society, examining which restrictions need to be imposed in the Social Welfare Function (SWF) in arder that this function can represent the mentioned preferences. Furthermore, we propose a particular SWF that allows us to collect different degrees of aversion to inequality, depending on the QALY gains being analysed. The results of an experiment whose objective is to obtain a first empirical approach to the SWF are presented.
El modelo QALY -años de vida ajustados por calidad- considera que cada QALY adicional tiene el mismo valor social. Las implicaciones de este enfoque en cuanto a la equidad distributiva han sido muy criticadas. En este articulo se identifican diferentes preferencias distributivas presentes en la sociedad, identificando las propiedades que debe tener la Función de Bienestar Social (FBS) para éstas preferencias puedan ser representadas. Además, se propone una FBS concreta que permite incorporar diferentes grados de aversión a la desigualdad dependiendo del número de QALYs individuales obtenidos. También se muestran los resultados de un experimento cuyo objetivo es obtener una primera aproximación de la FBS.
