Abstract
Objective. To design intrauterine growth curves and charts for twins, according to sex and weeks of gestation, and examine the perinatal aspects of these pregnancies. Material and methods. A cross-sectional, descriptive approach was employed to analyze the anthropometric data at birth (weight, length and head circumference) of 1116 pairs of healthy twins born of event-free pregnancies at Hospital San Carlos in Madrid, Spain. Results. The growth curves and charts of a total of 1056 twin boys and 1084 twin girls are presented according to means and standard deviations (+2SD, +1SD, -2SD, -1SD). Conclusion. Each population group should have their own fetal growth curves to enable the classification of newborns as preterm, full-term or post-term and as large, normal and small in size with regard to the gestational age.
