Abstract
Esta comunicação apresenta e analisa os resultados de um estudo realizado sobre um conjunto de fontes periódicas, representativas da produção profissional e académica em ciências da informação e documentação, com o objetivo de quantificar o peso e influência que o aparato normativo subjacente à gestão da informação bibliográfica e à produção de catálogos de biblioteca têm tido na literatura, e avaliar a forma como são entendidos e tratados um conjunto de tópicos subjacentes à temática. O método escolhido foi o da análise estatística, aplicado a uma estrutura de análise composta por três grandes temas: i) catálogos em linha; ii) modelos conceptuais, emergentes do modelo FRBR; e, iii) normas de estrutura de dados e de informação subjacentes aos catálogos bibliográficos; divididos em subcategorias, cada uma com tópicos de indexação. Foi verificado: 1) interesse dos temas, através da ocorrência de artigos nas publicações selecionadas; 2) peso dos temas por periódico, através do rácio entre o número de artigos publicados e o número de artigos selecionados em cada tema; e 3) peso relativo dos tópicos de indexação em cada tema para avaliar a sua evolução (principais desenvolvimentos e preocupações, evolução futura). Os resultados são indicativos de: i) presença residual da temática em estudo; ii) dispersão das suas perspetivas de abordagem; e iii) não existência de tendências evidentes de crescimento. Esta situação é reveladora da pertinência de se realizar investigação aprofundada sobre as novas questões técnicas que se colocam na organização e acesso à informação, especialmente em tópicos de investigação emergentes como o de uma melhor adequação dessas estruturas aos linked data.
This paper presents and analyzes the results of a study, fulfilled on a set of academic and professional journals in library and information science, with the aim of quantifying the importance and influence that have had on literature the standards behind the management of bibliographic information and the production of library catalogs, as well as assess how they are understood and treated a set of topics underlying the theme. The method chosen was statistical analysis, applied to three main themes: i) online catalogs; ii) conceptual models, emerging from the FRBR model; and, iii) data and information standards underlying the bibliographic catalogues. Each theme is divided into subcategories for which indexing topics were created, in order to verify: 1) interest of the subjects in the scientific and professional community, through the occurrence of articles in the selected journals; 2) importance of the subjects in each journal analyzed, through the ratio between the total number of articles published and the number of selected articles by theme; and 3) number of indexing topics in each theme to evaluate the evolution of perspectives in the treatment of themes (main developments and concerns, future trends). Results indicated that: i) the thematic in study is sparse; ii) the thematic approach is scattered; and iii) non-existence of obvious tendencies of growth. This situation is indicative of the relevance of conducting in-depth research on the new technical issues concerning to the organisation and access to information, especially in emerging research issues such as a better suitability of these structures to linked data.
