Abstract
Los pacientes hospitalizados con alteraciones severas de la conciencia (pacientes en estado vegetativo permanente o pacientes en estado de mínima conciencia) debido a su enfermedad neurológica, no tienen conciencia de si mismos ni pueden interactuar con su entorno; no tienen comprensión ni emiten lenguaje y no tienen conductas voluntarias. Esta presencia ausente del enfermo y el carácter irreversible e indefinido de la enfermedad, da lugar a que los familiares cuidadores afronten con dificultad el acompañamiento del paciente y la situación que se ven obligados a vivir, presentando un elevado riesgo de padecer malestar emocional. Es necesario investigar en nuestro país, el impacto emocional que causa en los familiares, acompañar a un paciente que padece una alteración severa de la conciencia y estudiar las variables predictoras e implicadas en el malestar emocional que sus familiares padecen...
Patients hospitalised with severe consciousness disorders (patients in permanent vegetative state or patients in minimally conscious state) due to their neurological disease, have no awareness of themselves, nor can they interact with their surroundings. They have no comprehension or language expression, and have no voluntary behaviour. Such an absent presence of the patient, together with the irreversible and indefinite nature of the disease, causes the caregiving family members to face staying with the patient and the situation they have to undergo as a trying task, and so to be in high risk of suffering emotional disorder. Research into the emotional impact caused in family members accompanying a patient who suffers a severe consciousness disorder is much needed, as well as research into the predictive and implied variables in the emotional distress that their family members suffer...
