Abstract
The main objective of this essay is to describe the problems linked to the adoption of territorial autonomy as the model of political territoriality that could satisfy the demands of ethnic groups that are culturally differentiated and, simultaneously, safeguard the sovereignty of the NationState. It deals also with the analysis of the “coloniality of power”, and the relevance of the indigenous strategies of territorial autonomy in the fight against it. The demands of territorial autonomy of the organizations of indigenous peoples in Mexico will be particularly studied, contrasting them with some other experiences in North America and the Pacific region.
