Abstract
El objetivo de esta tesis es destacar –y en algún caso dar a conocer– la figura de María Goyri. Esposa de Ramón Menéndez Pidal y colaboradora entusiasta de su trabajo, especialmente en lo que se refiere al Romancero, es en general conocida solo por esta circunstancia, a pesar de haber desarrollado una intensa actividad personal en varios campos y de haber llevado una vida de mujer de vanguardia en su época. Los 80 años que vivió María Goyri corresponden a un momento particularmente convulso en la vida de España y también en el resto del mundo, en el cual aparecen grandes cambios que ella vivió en primera persona. Su entorno familiar, cultural y social fue también interesante: su vida se desarrolló en la Institución Libre de Enseñanza de modo directo y también a través de la Junta para la Ampliación de Estudios, que durante sus casi 30 años de existencia ocupó las actividades de María Goyri, concretamente en la Residencia de Señoritas, 1915, y en el Instituto Escuela, 1918. Durante la Guerra de 1936 vivió un breve exilio, sufrió la separación de la familia hasta el fin de conflicto, y durante los años Cuarenta y Cincuenta también sufrió junto a Ramón Menéndez Pidal la represión y la miseria material y cultural propias de la época, a pesar de lo cual se entregó a la investigación en solitario. Desde la juventud María Goyri manifestó una personalidad sin prejuicios, capaz de luchar por sus objetivos: el primero de ellos fue matricularse de modo oficial en la universidad, algo difícil en el año 1892, pero que ella logró cursando con brillantez los estudios de licenciatura y doctorado. The objective of this doctoral thesis is to highlight –and in some cases to introduce– the figure of María Goyri. Wife of Ramón Menéndez Pidal and enthusiastic collaborator of his work, especially as it regards the spanish Romancero, she is generally known only by this circumstance, despite having developed an intense personal activity in various fields and led the life of a forefront woman of her day. The 80 years that María Goyri lived correspond to a particularly intense moment in the life of Spain and also in the rest of the world, in which appeared major changes that she lived in first person. Her family, cultural and social environment was also interesting: her life was directly linked to the Institución Libre de Enseñanza and also to the Junta para la Ampliación de Estudios, that during its 30 years of existence occupied María Goyri's activities, specifically in the Residencia de Señoritas, 1915, and in the Instituto Escuela, 1918. During the Spanish War of 1936 she experienced a brief period of exile, suffered the separation of her family until the end of conflict, and during the forties and fifties, along with Ramón Menéndez Pidal, she also went through the repression and material and cultural poverty typical of that time in Spain, despite which she devoted to investigate on her own. From her youth María Goyri displayed a personality without prejudices, able to fight for her goals: the first of them was to officially enroll in college, something rather difficult in 1892, but in which she succeeded by brilliantly pursuing graduate and doctoral studies.
