Abstract
Tras el esfuerzo por comprender los cambios que están sufriendo las transiciones de los jóvenes al mundo de los adultos, se esconde un tema relevante: el modo en que estos jóvenes llegan a convertirse en actores social y políticamente activos en sus comunidades de pertenencia. Es decir, surge el interés por analizar cómo se llega a ser, al tiempo, joven y ciudadano en las sociedades actuales. El artículo considera dos aspectos relevantes de esta construcción de la ciudadanía entre los jóvenes europeos, prestando una especial atención al caso español. En primer lugar, aborda el debate sobre los cambios en la implicación cívica de los jóvenes y su posible impacto en la vida política democrática. En segundo lugar, considera las representaciones sobre la ciudadanía, introduciendo así el papel de los marcos culturales en la concepción de la pertenencia a una comunidad política.
Behind the effort to understand the changes that the youth transitions to adulthood undergo, a relevant subject can be found out: the way in whic those young people turn into social and political active actors in their own communities. That is to say, the interest arises to analyze how it is possible to became, at the same time, young and citizen in our contemporary societies. The article takes into account two relevant aspects of this citizenship building among European youth, giving a special attention to the Spanish case. First of all, it tackles the debate on the changes of the youth civic engagement and their likely impact on the democratic political life. Secondly, it considers citizenship representations, referring consequently to the role of cultural frames in the conception of belonging to a political community
