Abstract
Los seres humanos desde sus orígenes han tratado de comprender el mundo para transformarlo. Esto ha llevado a una acumulación cada vez mayor de conocimientos y al desarrollo de herramientas y técnicas que han sido desplazadas sucesivamente por otras más modernas. Actualmente muchos de estos futuros tecnofosiles humanos se encuentran protegidos y conservados por las instituciones académicas en las que fueron creados, diseñados o utilizados. La Universidad Complutense (UCM), fundada en 1499, cuenta con un patrimonio artístico y científico-técnico notable. Hace tres décadas se inició un nuevo inventario y catalogación de las principales colecciones y todavía fue más importante el considerar todo este legado agrupado como un conjunto de bienes que la Universidad Complutense debe administrar y proteger.
Este esfuerzo, que siempre se hizo con el apoyo institucional, aunque contando con escasos recursos que fueron compensados por la tenacidad y entusiasmo del personal involucrado, ha dado lugar al actual Museo de Colecciones de la Universidad Complutense que, sin duda se beneficiaría con la adscripción al University Museums And Collections Committee (UMAC). Este Congreso Internacional de Museos Universitarios, celebrado en Madrid, sirve para colocar a los Museos Universitarios Españoles, con sus instituciones hermanas en el ámbito internacional.
Además, la experiencia de muchos años actuando como responsable de la conservación del legado de Luis Simarro, ha servido para poder reflexionar sobre aspectos prácticos relacionados con la divulgación científica, la exposición de nuestro patrimonio cultural, la profesionalización del personal, el voluntariado y el papel de las redes sociales. Por último, se presenta un análisis del cuadro del Dr. Luis Simarro Lacabra “Una investigación” que fue pintado por Sorolla y que es uno de los cuadros más destacados del mundo en este género en el que la ciencia y los científicos se convierten en protagonistas.
The human beings from its origins have sought to understand the world to transform it. This has led to a growing accumulation of knowledge and to development of tools and techniques that have been successively displaced by more modern ones. Currently, many of these future human technofossils have been collected and preserved by the academic institutions in which they were created, used or inspired. The Complutense University (UCM), founded in 1499, houses a remarkable artistic and scientific & technical heritage. Three decades ago a new inventory and cataloging of the main collections was started and it was even more important to keep the whole collection following the professional standards of museums. That effort, that was always made with institutional support and with scarce resources (offset by the tenacity of the staff involved), is giving birth to the Museum Collections of the University Complutense that, certainly would benefit from joining to the University Museums And Collections Committee (UMAC). This International Congress of University Museums, held in Madrid, can contribute to position the Spanish University. On the other hand, from longstanding experience, resulting from the conservation of the Luis Simarro Legacy Trust, we present some reflections on practical aspects related to scientific dissemination, exhibition of our cultural heritage, professionalization of staff, volunteering and the role of social networks. Finally, an analysis is done on Dr Simarro’s canvas A Research which, painted by Sorolla, can be among the most outstanding world paintings of this genre in which science and scientists become protagonists.
