Abstract
Invasion of visceral pleura in less than 3cm tumors, is known in lung cancer as a poor prognosis factor, and it classifies them as T2. Recent studies suggests that invasion of visceral pleura may be a poor prognosis factor in lung cancer, regardless of the tumor size. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the role of visceral pleura invasion in the survival of a series of patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. Hypothesis: Invasion of visceral pleura is a poor prognosis factor, regardless of tumoral size. Besides, invasion of visceral pleura is associated with a larger affectation of mediastinum lymph node. Materials y Methods: The studied population will include patients surgically treated for lung cancer between January 2005 and December 2009, both included, collected in a consecutive way as a cohort, with intention to treat, in the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre in Madrid. It is a retrospective, longitudinal and analytic designed study of the described population. Patients were collected from the database of the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, and information was categorized through medical records and the registry of the Department of Pathology...
