Abstract
La Malnutrición Proteico-Energética (MPE) es una de las causas prevenibles que más muertes prematuras producen en los niños a nivel mundial. La gravedad de la MPE consiste en su afectación al organismo incluso antes del nacimiento, lastrando un desarrollo saludable en los niños. En este trabajo se detallan algunos mediadores bioquímicos involucrados en la MPE precoz a nivel del sistema nervioso central (SNC), y se enumeran las consecuencias neuro-psiquiátricas en la descendencia, como una mayor incidencia de esquizofrenia y depresión, a las cuales los individuos están expuestos si experimentan desde el útero una MPE materna.
Protein-Energy Malnutrition (PEM) is one of the worldwide issues which cause more preventable deaths on children. The seriousness of PEM consists on its capacity of affecting the organism even before birth, undermining a healthy development on children. In this paper, we detail some biochemical mediators involved in PEM, on central nervous system-level, and we number the neuro-psychiatric consequences on the offspring, such as higher rates of schizophrenia and depression, when exposed to maternal malnutrition.
