Abstract
There are several causes for premature loss of one or more teeth in children. This early loss affects in a negative way to the development of the oral functions in children. The replacement of teeth lost by different types of prostheses is required in the temporary dentition to restore oral functions, prevent pathological habits, improve aesthetics and maintain space for the permanent teeth in its eruption. The cause of this premature loss can be due to dental caries, dental anomalies and with a higher prevalence dental trauma, being in the majority of cases, losses in the maxillary anterior teeth. It is well known, that the absence of teeth during the age between 3 and 5 years should be fixed in order to maturate all the oral functions as well as to avoid pathological habits and the maintenance of the space in the temporary arch. In this early loss we have to face also the psychological impact on children and parents, very important matter in this maturation phase of the children. AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of fixed prostheses with pediatric crowns for the replacement of deciduous maxillary anterior teeth that were lost prematurely. The specific aims were to analyze the sample sex, age and etiology of the teeth loss, and to evaluate the relation between the complications found in the treatment with the devices and some variables of the prostheses. We also analyzed a parent’s valid survey about the satisfaction of the treatment...
