Abstract
El fenómeno editorial de la novela histórica no ha parado de crecer en los últimos años y su estudio ha entrado incluso en las universidades. La presente tesis es un estudio formal del género y tiene por objetivo determinar si las novelas históricas constituyen una herramienta útil para adquirir conocimientos históricos o si, por el contrario, contribuyen a distorsionarlos. Objetivos más específicos son:1. Exponer los mitos, leyendas y clichés a los que el género recurre de forma repetida, enfrentándolos a los datos proporcionados por la historiografía. 2. Analizar la relación entre las novelas históricas y la historiografía, puesto que la forma en la que ha evolucionado la ciencia histórica determina el modo en el que las novelas históricas se escriben. Las propuestas posmodernistas, y su desconfianza hacia la capacidad de la historia para narrar el pasado, han tenido gran influencia en algunos autores.3. Examinar las novelas históricas escritas por mujeres, especialmente durante los últimos años. Se trata de obras que reivindican personajes olvidados o silenciados por la historia. El objetivo es determinar si el interés de las escritoras se centra en la historia o si, por el contrario, lo que quieren es ajustar cuentas con las crónicas y el modo en que relegan al olvido a las mujeres.4. Estudiar si el lector puede distinguir si un acontecimiento es histórico o inventado con fines narrativos. A veces, los autores olvidan que, mientras que a los hechos y protagonistas ficticios les basta ser verosímiles, los acontecimientos y personajes históricos sólo pueden mostrarse tal y como los conocemos gracias a las fuentes históricas...
The editorial phenomenon of historical novels has increased over the last few years and its study has even entered Universities. This thesis is a formal analysis of the genre and it aims to determine if historical novels are a useful tool to get historical knowledge or if, on the contrary, they help to distort it. More specific aims of the thesis are:1) To expose recurring myths, legends and clichés of the genre in face of data provided by the Historiography. 2) To analyze the relationship between historical novels and Historiography since the evolution of historical science determines the way historical novels are written. The proposal of postmodernist manners with its distrust of the ability of History to narrate the past facts has a huge influence oversome authors. 3) To examine historical novels written by women, primarily over the most recent years. These works reclaim characters forgotten or silenced by History. The goal is to ascertain if the interest of the female writers is in History or if they want to settle scores with the ancient chronicles due to their oversight of women. 4) To study if the reader can distinguish if an event is historical or an invented fact for narrative ends. Sometimes the authors forget that, while fictional facts and characters can be anything as long they seem plausible, historical facts and characters can only be as they are represented in historical sources. If the contrary, how could historical novels be useful to learn History?...
