Abstract

Resulta complicado, a la vez que muy interesante, tratar de definir al maestro Ryszard Kapuściński. Fue una persona muy generosa, valiente, honesta, profesional, comprometida, temeraria y muy curiosa. Se le podría definir como periodista, historiador, escritor, ensayista o poeta. A nivel profesional, Kapuściński se consideraba historiador porque su misión era la de estudiar la historia en el momento presente cuando estaba sucediendo, es decir, la historia de hoy. Kapuściński consideraba que narrar la historia actual es una de las finalidades propias del periodismo, de ahí que considerase a los periodistas auténticos historiadores. Kapuściński es considerado como uno de los mejores reporteros internacionales de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Kapuściński recibió numerosos premios y condecoraciones por su trabajo y dedicación en todo el mundo. Es considerado un referente en el mundo periodístico en España, al igual que en otros muchos países. En Polonia, la grandeza del reportero va unida a una larga tradición literaria, la cual ha existido desde finales del siglo XIX, llegando a la cima con las dos escuelas de reportaje principales: la de Hannah Krall y la de Ryszard Kapuściński. Las obras del reportero han dejado un criterio literario determinado y son un referente para gran cantidad de periodistas....

Trying to define Ryszard Kapuściński is a challenging but interesting task. He was generous, courageous, honest, profesional, dedicated, fearless and extremely curious. He could be defined as a journalist, an historian, a writer, an essayist or a poet. From a professional point of view, Kapuściński was considered an historian because he studied the contemporary history while it was developing. Kapuściński considered relating current history one of the main purposes of journalism. For this reason, he understood journalists as genuine historians. Kapuściński is considered one of the most important reporters of the second half of the 20th century. Kapuściński received a large number of awards and honors for his work and dedication all around the world. As well as in other countries, he is known as a benchmark in the Spanish journalism environment. In Poland, the greatness of journalism is linked to a big literary tradition which has exist since the end of the 19th century and which reached its peak with both schools of reportage: Hannah Kralls’ school and Ryszard Kapuścińskis’ school. Kapuściński’s work has lead to an specific literary criteria and constitutes a reference for a large number of journalists. During his life, Kapuściński has witnessed 27 revolutions, survived twelve front line combats and was sentenced to death four times.
