Abstract
Ceramic figurines are small-scale, three-dimensional configurations of clay mass that represent realistically or stereotyped people, animals or supernatural beings and therefore turn out to be an inexhaustible source of information about the social, economic, politicaland religious systems of the culture that generated them. The archaeological contexts attest that it is a type of artifact widely spread in Mesoamerica over time and that permeated all social strata, as evidenced by its appearance in both common and elite contexts. However, at the formal level, the figurines address various themes, whose archaeological analysis allows us to know important aspects of religious and daily life, provides valuable information about the production and distribution of these artifacts. The sample of figurines that was analyzed in this work of doctoral thesis includes 1184 pieces from the collection of the archaeological site of Palenque, Chiapas. The main artifacts of this research come from the 1992-1994 field seasons, from the Palenque Special Archaeological Project, of the Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), directed by the archaeologist Arnoldo González Cruz...
