Abstract
Undoubtedly, the work of William Shakespeare is one of the main pillars on which the dramaturgy and poetics of Federico García Lorca rest. The themes and characters of the English playwright appear from the texts of the youth, where they help the Andalusian writer to configure his peculiar literary universe. This being so, it should not be surprising that, in mature works, the Bard's pieces become the backbone of Lorca's tragedies: a representation of Romeo and Juliet is the starting point of the action of the daring work El público (The Public), A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of the keys to a good understanding of the Comedia sin título (Play Without Title). However, Federico García Lorca is the heir of a long Shakespearian tradition in Spain. In the introduction of this work, we will study the arrival of the Shakespeare texts in the peninsula, through the French translations of Ducis. Despite the poor quality of his work and the literary criteria in force in the eighteenth century, the reason and adherence to classical rules, certain authors such as Leandro Fernández de Moratín were able to perceive the great potential of the English tragedies . Although the author of the El sí de las niñas (Yes of the Girls) recriminates the playwright of Stratford-upon-Avon for his total disregard of the classic rules and the magical appearances that occur on the scene - like the ghost of Hamlet's father he praises his wit and his strength creative Moratín was so amazed by the work of the Englishman that he signed one of the first biographies (Life of William Shakespeare) and one of the first translations from Hamlet's English. However, in the Notes accompanying his work, he recorded the aspects that most excited him and those that, on the contrary, seemed distasteful to him. Thanks to his interest and open-mindedness, as to those of other enlightened people, Shakespeare's dissemination was facilitated throughout Spain...
