Abstract
The purpose of this doctoral thesis is to study the causes of the jihadist terrorist phenomenon and, in particular, to analyse the structure, propaganda, recruitment and methods of attack used by the terrorist organization Daesh. This threat to international security is of great interest and a very topical research subject due to the growth of terrorism both physically and virtually. The period of research into the terrorist organization covers the period from 2014 to 2018, with the key dates for the study being 29 June 2014, when Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the caliphate after giving the "Glad Tidings for the Muslim Ummah" speech, and 22 August 2018, when the Daesh leader read a speech entitled "Give glad tidings to the patient", in which he downplayed the importance of the physically reduced size of the caliphate after the actions carried out by the International Coalition and urged the strengthening of the Cyber Caliphate and a return to traditional asymmetric strategies. Taking into account the complex and dynamic nature of Daesh as the phenomenon under study, the research is organized around the qualitative analysis method. Descriptive, comparative and theoretical and analytical approaches being the specific research methods used. The combination of the three methods mentioned, together with an analysis of information from both Daesh and international organisations dedicated to the counter-terrorist struggle, allows us to carry out an exhaustive and detailed study of the jihadist threat...
