Abstract
Esta tesis pretende ser un estudio descriptivo de las perífrasis verbales en español. Su foco principal son aquellas perífrasis formadas con el auxiliar acabar: <acabar por + infinitivo> y las tres perífrasis homónimas con la forma <acabar de + infinitivo>. Para comenzar la discusión, exponemos en el capítulo uno un estado de la cuestión acerca de las perífrasis verbales. En él, proponemos una definición de perífrasis verbal y desarrollamos los criterios formales que caracterizan estas construcciones. Entendemos que es necesario definir las perífrasis verbales desde una concepción de prototipos y no de condiciones necesarias y suficientes, ya que el término perífrasis verbal engloba construcciones de naturaleza muy diferente. Además, no es una categoría de palabras cerrada, sino que es un sistema productivodel español hoy. En el primer capítulo también mostramos la clasificación semántica tradicional de las construcciones perifrásticas, tradicionalmente divididas en modales y aspectuales. This dissertation aims to study the constructions called verbal periphrasis in Spanish, with aspecial focus on those structures formed with acabar as the auxiliary: <acabar por + infinitive>, and the three constructions made with <acabar de + infinitive>. This work starts by showing in chapter one a state of the question regarding verbal periphrasis. Here, we give a definition of what a verbal periphrasis is, and we develop the formal criteria that characterizes these kinds of constructions. We believe that verbal periphrasis need to be defined in terms of prototypes and not in terms of sufficient and necessary conditions. The reason for this kind of definition is that the nature of these structures is very different from one another, and that they are part of an open category that is still productive in the Spanish language. In this first chapter we also show a semantic classification of the verbal periphrasis. They have been traditionally divided into modality and aspect. Therefore, we dedicate one small section of our first chapter to modality, and later, we study the concept of aspect more carefully...
