Abstract
La existencia de un campo magnético de origen interno es una de las características más importantes de nuestro planeta que lo diferencia de sus vecinos y que ha condicionado tanto la evolución de la Tierra como el desarrollo de la vida. Sin embargo, aún no entendemos muchos aspectos de su comportamiento. En parte, esto se debe a que se origina en el núcleo externo,muy lejos de nuestro alcance, lo que impide obtener medidas directas del sistema que lo genera. Por tanto, nuestra mejor opción para comprender la dinámica del campo magnético terrestre (CMT) y conocer su posible evolución en el futuro pasa por estudiar cómo se ha comportado en el pasado...
The existence of a magnetic field of internal origin is one of the most important features of our planet which makes it different from its neighbours and which has determined the evolution of the Earth as well as the development of life. Nevertheless, we still do not understand many aspects of its behaviour. This is partially due to its origin being in the outer core, far beyond our reach, preventing us to obtain direct measurements from the system that generates it. Therefore, our best option to understand the dynamics of the Earth’s magnetic field (EMF) and to know its possible evolution in the future includes the study of its behaviour in the past...
