Abstract
La cultura clásica ha llegado hasta nuestro días gracias a la adaptación cinematográfica de muchas de sus obras: La Ilíada, La Odisea, Los trabajos de Hércules o Jasón y los Argonautas. Incluso se ha conformado una categoría propia, el peplum, que abarca esta temática. No obstante, y aunque bien es cierto que las recreaciones –más o menos fieles- son numerosas, cabe plantearse: de qué otra manera mantiene su influencia en la cultura actual y cómo la mitología clásica ha ido evolucionando y empapando la narrativa contemporánea. A la hora de analizar la pervivencia del mito en la narrativa, ya numerosos autores han mirado hacia el cine como el soporte ideal para el hipertexto, lo que Genette (1989) denominó “palimpsesto”. No obstante, la tercera edad dorada de la televisión ha hecho que las series de la última década poco o nada tengan que envidiarle al relato fílmico, produciendo unas obras de suma calidad técnica y estilística. Por el público al que se dirigen y las respuestas que producen –tanto a nivel de crítica como a nivel de audiencia–, son estos relatos seriales, precisamente, en los que debemos fijarnos para comprender la verdadera evolución del mito. Classical antiquity has arrived to our days thanks to the cinematographic adaptation of many of its works: The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Labours of Hercules or Jason and the Argonauts. It even has shaped its own category, “peplum”, which covers this theme. Nevertheless, and although it is true that the –kind of– faithful recreations are many, it is possible to consider what other ways it has influenced, how Classical mythology has been evolving and impregnated contemporary narrative. When analysing the persistence of the myth in the narrative, numerous authors have already considered the cinema as the perfect format for the palimpsest. However, the third golden age of television has achieved that tv shows from the last decade have nothing to envy the film narrative, producing work of supreme technical and stylistic quality. Because of the audience that it is directed to and the answers that it provokes – both in critics and in audience levels–, it is in these serial narratives, precisely, that we will have to look into in order to understand the real evolution of the myth. After the success of the tv show Game of Thrones, which has been the most EMMY awarded production in the history of television, this present thesis work focuses on proving the reflection of Classical mythology in the development of its story line and it’s characters...
