Abstract
Introduction: When determining the needs of the students from two music schools in the Community of Madrid, we found some difficulties related to motivation towards the Musical Language subject. The unmotivated behaviour was revealed through reiterated absences, which in some cases led to drop offs, as this is an optional subject. We also spotted weaknesses in the development of creation as a sequential component of music education. Objective: To elaborate an educational-creative model in order to potentiate students´ motivation towards the Musical Language subject. Method: Class observation and surveys amongst students were used in this study to determine the causes for the lack of motivation. The documentary study allowed us to define the model that integrates a creative process into Brett Jones´ MUSIC Model of Motivation (2009) and through it, the Musical Language teaching-learning process is developed. The model is currently being applied with secondyear students aged between 9 and 11 years old. Results: Results show that the educational-creative process develops musical skills and favours motivated behaviour, states a greater empowerment, interest, self-perception of success and the use value of the subject and the social relationships in the context of learning. Conclusions: We can say that the educational-creative model deals with the students´ lack of motivation through creation in the Musical Language subject.
