Abstract
This paper describe two units of the Guadiana Basin (Cenozoic) between Mérida and Badajoz, Spain. The first unit (upper tertiary unit) represent fluvial sandstone deposits that was migrating from the E towards the W. The miocene fluvial system is characterised for channels and bars deposits associated with edafic levels and erratic development of the flood plain deposits. The second fluvial unit (plioquaternary unit) represent a new superimposed fluvial system. The Plioquaternary system is characterised for sandstone and conglomeratic deposits that represent channel and bars with high lateral displacements as consequence of the migration and fill of the fluvial system. Both types of fluvial systems represent part of the evolution of the Guadiana basin from the Miocene until the Plioquaternary.
