Abstract
Este estudio compara dos entornos de aprendizaje, el presencial y el virtual, y examina el rol de la tecnología y sus efectos en el comportamiento de varios grupos de estudiantes universitarios que asisten a clase de lengua extranjera. En la primera fase de la investigación se llevó a cabo un estudio exploratorio en el que participaron 138 estudiantes que habían tenido experiencia asistiendo a clase en ambos entornos, presencial y en línea. Los datos cuantitativos y cualitativos obtenidos en ese primer estudio sugieren que la mediación tecnológica tendría un efecto mitigador de la ansiedad lingüística que favorecería la participación y la asunción de riesgos por parte de los estudiantes. Los resultados, que se analizaron en el marco de teorías provenientes de la psicología evolutiva y la ciberpsicología, sirvieron de base para el diseño de la segunda fase de la investigación, que se encuentra actualmente en desarrollo.
This study examines differences between two learning environments, face-to-face and online, and assesses the role of technology and its effects on the behavior of several groups of university students in the foreign language class. The quantitative and qualitative data obtained in the pilot study suggest that the technology mediated environment decreases language anxiety among students resulting in an increase in student participation and risk-taking behaviors.
