Abstract
[ABSTRACT] The shallow-marine Pliocene succesion of Rio Alías consists of deposits laid down by prograding shallow shelf-talus and tan delta systems. The lower calcarenite member displays largescale sets of cross-bedding that are sudied in detail. Lack of definite tide-generated features, together with repeated intense burrowing of some of the foreset laminae, lead to invoke wind-driven currents, induced by storms blowing from E and W, torced through a narrow, shallow pass between two emergent islands, where the flow accelerated.
