Abstract
El objetivo de este trabajo es el de intentar explicar la evolución de los mapas medievales de abadía, los llamados mappaemundi, resaltando el conjunto de relaciones que se establecen entre el mapa y el códice. La idea que está al frente es la de esclarecer el camino que lleva desde los mapas miniatura hasta los mapas murales, recurriendo a la tensión que se produce entre, por un lado, el mundo de la copia bibliográfica y del corpus manuscrito y por el otro, el de los mapas y la cartografía ilustrativa. En definitiva, es la historia de cómo el mapa, cuyo contenido y existencia aparece ligado en todos los niveles al cuerpo librario y a la textualidad, va negociando esa tensión hasta lograr él mismo convertirse en un continente textual con significado propio.
This essay aims to explain the evolution of medieval abbey maps, the so-called mappaemundi, highlighting the relations established between the map and the codex. The main idea is use the tension that occurs between the world of bibliographic copy and manuscript corpus, and the maps and illustrative mapping, in order to clarify the gap that leads from the thumbnail maps to wall maps. In short, this is the story of how the map, whose content has always been linked at all levels to the librarian body and the textuality, manages this tension to become a textual-dependent repository with its own meaning.
