Abstract
Los glaciares antárticos contienen el 90% del hielo que existe en la Tierra, y por ello son a la vez uno de los factores básicos de control del clima, y testigos de la glaciación que nuestro planeta atraviesa desde hace unos 40 millones de años. Aunque la gran masa de hielo forma un casquete glaciar, todos los subtipos de glaciares existen en la Antártida. Hay indicios múltiples de que este gran laboratorio del clima terrestre está entrando en una fase acelerada de inestabilidad.
Antarctic glaciers make 90% of the Earth ice. They represent therefore a basic climatic control element, and also the only complete record of the glaciation the Earth is experiencing during the last 40 Ma. Though the mass of ice is the model ice sheet, all glacier subtypes are found in Antarctica. Scientists are amassing a considerable amount of data pointing out that antarctic ice is now entering a phase of growing instability.
