Abstract
We present Johnson B CCD photometry for the whole sample of galaxies of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) Survey Lists I and II. They constitute a well-defined and complete sample of galaxies in the Local Universe with active star formation. The data refer to 191 SO to Irr galaxies at an averaged redshift of 0.027, and complement the already published Gunn r, J and K photometries. In this paper the observational and reduction features are discussed in detail, and the new colour information is combined to search for clues on thee properties of the galaxies, mainly by comparing our sample with other surveys.

This paper is based on observations obtained at the German-Spanish Astronomical Centre, Calar Alto, Spain, operated by the Max-Planck Institut für Astronomie (MPIA), Heidelberg, jointly with the Spanish Commission for Astronomy. It is also partly based on observations made with the Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope operated on the island of La Palma by the Royal Greenwich Observatory in the Spanish Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and the 1.52 m telescope of the EOCA/OAN Observatory. This research has made use of the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED) which is operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
