Abstract

The geographic characteristics divide Avila into three agricultural regions, from north to south: La Moraña, Valle de Amblés and Allende los Puertos. The geographical diversity and the different space occupation trends coming from the medieval re-settlement process determined sharp contrasts between the county economic structures. The economy of La Moraña was characterized by a predominantly cereal agriculture economy. Valle de Amblés economy was defined by a diversified agriculture near the capital, and grain and/or livestock in the rest of the region according to the quality of the land. The economy of Allende los Puertos, was defined by the small size of soils for grain agriculture, the primary sector was characterized by a variety of activities: grain, horticulture, livestock, hunting, forestry, agriculture, and a very important transport sector...
