Abstract
In this thesis on evaluative learning (EL) the most relevant theoretical and applied aspects of the discipline are presented. It is framed within the current debate surrounding the theoretical nature of evaluative learning, which is considered a type of learning that is qualitatively different from that which is defined as signal learning, or as an atypical form of Pavlovian classical conditioning. Since the early research into EL, behaviour atypical of a conditioned evaluative response (CER) has been described in respect of the most relevant basic phenomena of classical conditioning: extinction, latent inhibition and blocking. Thus, this thesis tests the response of EL itself, the conditioned evaluative response (CER) and a response of signal learning: the contingency judgement between conditioned evaluative stimuli (CES) and unconditioned evalua tive stimuli (UES). This allows us to compare both types of learning in terms of the most relevant basic phenomena: extinction, blocking and latent inhibition. In the first experiment, in which university students participated, the EL prototype procedure is used (paradigm image- image) to study the phenomenon of blocking in CER. The results show resistance to the CER blocking. No significant differences appear before stimuli (UES) with a high level of information, compared to stimuli with a redundant informative value...
