Abstract
La nieve y el hielo en el arte, como hilo conductor de la tesis, se presentan como una unidad, por lo que en muchos casos se hace referencia al material y al elemento en singular. El punto de partida de esta tesis doctoral está basado en un interés personal por estos materiales poco frecuentes, sus posibilidades plásticas y su presencia en el arte contemporáneo. Nieve y hielo en el arte, como materiales de corta duración en manifestaciones artísticas que implican un tiempo determinante y concreto, nuevos espacios de actuación e incorporan una experiencia por parte del artista y del espectador. Las características particulares de la nieve y el hielo, especialmente el hecho de ser efímeros, hacen que los materiales se presten para la realización de muchas y diversas manifestaciones artísticas y ofrezcan versatilidad de enfoques para la conceptualización y teorización abriendo puertas a diálogos sobre problemáticas del arte actual y su condición en la sociedad. El hilo conductor a lo largo de la tesis es la presencia de la nieve y o el hielo en obras de arte, como elemento efímero lleno de significaciones y motor de pensamiento enmarcado por la materia, el espacio y el tiempo. OBJETIVO El objetivo de la tesis es hacer un recorrido por obras en las cuales la nieve y el hielo está presente, ya sea como soporte, materia prima, elemento simbólico o medio de expresión y comunicación. El proyecto quiere hacer una recopilación de eventos y manifestaciones artísticas y analizar lo que está pasando con estos materiales y cómo las obras realizadas con ellos está influyendo en la sociedad, en las ciudades, en los espacios públicos y en el arte contemporáneo. El análisis presenta dos caminos paralelos; uno más formal, por un lado, con la nieve y el hielo como materiales plásticos y por otro, uno más conceptual, como materiales con carga simbólica, como detonantes y vehículos de ideas que abren camino a nuevos pensamientos que influyen y se reflejan en el arte. Se hacen de esta forma dos recorridos; Uno que abarca obras tridimensionales de tipo escultórico y arquitectónico y formalista y otro que engloba otro tipo de obras donde el material está presente con algún significado e intención...
Snow and Ice have always been important in the lives of human beings. Today in many parts of the world snow and ice are present for long periods of time during the year, or even all year round. Before, winter was a difficult season but now, in many cases, winter has become one of the most important seasons and snow and ice have become important materials for the arts, especially for sculpture and for architecture. Snow and Ice come from water. Without moisture, life on Earth would be impossible, and from this basic and necessary substance comes snow. Snow is formed by the precipitation of water vapour, condensed from the atmosphere, which reaches the ground in a crystalline shape or frozen state. When the processes of condensation and falling take place at a temperature below 0 °C o 32 °F, the result is snow. Snow is made of ice crystal structure. INTRODUCTION Snow and ice as uncommon materials, their plastic possibilities, and their presence in contemporary art. Snow and ice in art, as short-lived materials in artistic expression, involve a specific time period, new performance spaces, and incorporate experiences by the artist and the audience. The particular characteristics of snow and ice allow for carrying out a wide variety of art forms through different approaches. Snow and ice are presented as a unit, as an ideal element to discuss time, the present, and the moment the work is created and presented as experience, thus tracking the story both diachronically, over time, and synchronically, at a precise moment. The common thread throughout the thesis is the presence of snow and or ice, ephemeral elements full of meaning and driving force of thought, in works of art. Snow is present in different types of artistic expression, interventions in nature, sculptures, buildings, and manifestations and pieces that take the streets, cities, and new spaces within different contexts...
