Abstract
El objetivo de este trabajo de investigación es reconstruir los treinta y cinco años de historia de la Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado, la principal institución de apoyo a un museo en nuestro país, y analizar su labor de mecenazgo respecto al Museo del Prado, así como su contribución a la difusión del conocimiento de sus colecciones y su apoyo a la investigación sobre las mismas a través de cursos, exposiciones y publicaciones. La construcción de esta historia se ha realizado fundamentalmente en base a fuentes primarias, en concreto a la documentación generada por la Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado y el propio Museo y en menor medida por la de otras instituciones. Las principales fuentes de información utilizadas han sido las actas de los plenos y comisiones permanentes del Real Patronato del Museo del Prado y las actas de las reuniones del Patronato de la Fundación, de sus Juntas de Fundadores y sus comités ejecutivos y el archivo de correspondencia de ambas instituciones. A esto hay que unir los informes generados por la Fundación, sus Memorias y las numerosas publicaciones por ella editadas. Otra fuente de gran valor han sido las entrevistas personales a algunos de los protagonistas de su historia, fundamentales sobre todo para reconstruir el proceso de creación de la institución. El cuerpo de este trabajo se divide en tres capítulos. Los dos primeros tienen como objeto contextualizar la Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado. El primero lo hace en relación con la genealogía de las Asociaciones de Amigos de los Museos y otras instituciones análogas que pueden ser consideradas sus precedentes, y el segundo respecto al contexto histórico y geográfico donde nació, la España de las décadas de 1970 y 1980, con especial atención a la situación del que es su razón de ser, el Museo del Prado. The goal of this research paper is to reconstruct the thirty-five year history of the Friends of the Prado Museum Foundation, the leading institution of support for a museum in our country, and analyze its endeavor of patronage regarding the Prado Museum, as well as its contribution to the dissemination of knowledge of its collections and its support for research on them through courses, exhibitions and publications. The construction of this history has been chiefly made based on primary sources, namely the documentation generated by the Friends of the Prado Museum Foundation and the Museum itself and to a lesser extent by other institutions. The main sources of information used were the minutes of Plenary Sessions and Standing Committees of the Royal Board of the Prado Museum and the minutes of the meetings of the Board of the Foundation, its Founders Boards and Executive Committees and file correspondence of both institutions. Furthermore we must name the reports generated by the Foundation, its memoirs and numerous publications edited by them. Another source of great value was personal interviews with some of the protagonists of its history, especially fundamental to reconstruct the process of creating the institution. The body of this paper is divided into three chapters. The first two are intended to contextualize the Friends of the Prado Museum Foundation. The first does it in connection with the genealogy of the Association of Friends of Museums and other similar institutions that may be considered precedents, and the second regards the historical and geographical context where it was born, the Spain of the 1970s and 1980s, with special attention to the situation of what is its raison d'etre, the Prado Museum.
