Abstract
Prosody in the reciting of texts directly aids the comprehension of such texts, as it is one of the most important aspects that play a role in the automatic recognition of the spoken words. This, in addition to the control of suprasegmental parameters, provokes the listener to pay more attention to the speaker, even though classical rhetoric since the time of Quintilian has been largely omitted. However, when someone has to face an audience, they must deal with nervousness that stems from feeling constantly judged by said audience. This can lead to locking up and a lack of self-confidence. This study was conceived as the implementation of two issues: the teaching of intonation and fluidity in reading texts aloud and dealing with negative emotions that arise in situations in which the student is under pressure. Thus, a text recital workshop was carried out in the second level courses of an adult center with this double perspective in mind. Considering that one of the objectives was to connect teaching in this type of center with a work focus, appropriate resources and materials were utilized. Motivation is an important factor that was kept in mind as it is closely tied to positive emotions, such as the acquisition of security and the ambition to attain objectives and goals. Therefore, this proposal has as its objective to learn to correctly read aloud three types of text: unfamiliar texts, prepared texts, and theatrical texts. Despite the outcomes not resulting as significant in all of the performed tasks –this being due to limitations that will be discussed later– the students were able to overcome certain internal determining factors related to the recital of texts before an audience and came to conceive Spanish Language and Literature as an indispensable element in their lives.
