Abstract
In Iphigenie auf Tauris by Johann Wolfgang Goethe, man’s nature is shown from psychological extremes in order to construct the necessary middle ground to balance the dual sensorial and rational constitution of the human condition. In this play, the protagonist becomes the nucleus for the development of the inner revolution that each of the characters suffer, who act in roles that mutate as they confront the illustrated message put forward by Iphigenie, igniting in each of them the moral principles that all people have within, with greater or lesser latency, as a result of being rational creatures. It is on this basis that a means must be determined to educate in order to achieve true freedom through art, through the aesthetic experience of beauty, whereby individuals can advance outside the confines of prejudice and thus seek to embrace the human community that they yearn. To achieve this, special importance is given to the work of different thinkers and artists from different humanistic fields that essentially define the moment of the Weimarer Klassik. First, Kant shall lay the foundations of illustrated ethics, and later on in his Kritik der Urteilskraft shall offer the elements required for Human Judgement to issue any critique of judgement. In both senses, Kant shall prove decisive in establishing the autonomy of the three faculties of the human spirit. On the one hand, reason shall govern the faculty of desire, to prevent its most practical vision, ethics, from establishing maxims for moral behaviour that could be associated to any inclination, intention or private interest that could divert them from the universality that is sought in order to reach Kantian maturity, in which each person, in their autonomy, is proclaimed as the legislator of their own behaviour...
