Abstract
Las agenesias dentales son un importante tema de estudio para gran número de autores y aunque se ha visto la importancia de factores ambientales se está descubriendo la importancia de mutaciones de genes, es una patología congénita que deriva en la ausencia de uno o más dientes, temporales o permanentes. En el proceso de formación y calcificación dentaria, (que comienza entre el quinto mes de vida intrauterina y el nacimiento), puede haber alteraciones que dañen la formación de la lámina dental, provocando una agenesia o falta total de dientes temporales y permanentes. En este estudio hemos querido comprobar cuál es la pieza dentaria que en mayor medida presenta agenesia tanto en pacientes pediátricos como en pacientes con síndrome de Down. Por ello la muestra estuvo constituida por pacientes de ambos grupos y mediante radiografías panorámicas se diagnosticaban las agenesias dentales.
