Abstract
El Quijote, y otras obras de Miguel de Cervantes, fueron transmitidas mediante copias manuscritas desde finales del siglo XIX y el siglo XX. Obras únicas, excepcionales, nacidas de la pasión de su creador o para dar respuesta a una demanda de coleccionistas que querían enriquecer sus bibliotecas con estas copias, de gran valor artístico y cultural, que nadie más podía poseer. Uno de los coleccionistas que consiguieron reunir una mayor colección de manuscritos cervantinos fue Juan Sedó Peris-Mencheta, cuya biblioteca actualmente está entre los fondos de la Biblioteca Nacional de España. La abundante correspondencia con Arturo Xalambrí permite conocer detalles sobre su adquisición y el valor que el cervantófilo catalán dio a su colección manuscrita. Una segunda entrega del artículo estará dedicada a los manuscritos cervantinos de Arturo Xalambrí.

Don Quixote and other works by Miguel de Cervantes were transmitted as handwritten copies since the end of the nineteenth and throughout the twentieth century. They are unique remarkable pieces, born either out of the authors’ passion or to meet the demand of collectors who wanted to enrich their libraries with these culturally and artistically valuable copies, unattainable by anyone else. A particularly vast Cervantine collection was gathered by Juan Sedó PerisMencheta, whose library now belongs to the archive of the Biblioteca Nacional de España (National Library of Spain). The Catalan Cervantophile’s voluminous correspondence with Arturo Xalambrí sheds light on details about the former’s acquisition and the value he set on his handwritten collection. A second issue of this article will address Arturo Xalambrí’s Cervantine manuscripts.
