Abstract
Esta Tesis se plantea como un trabajo interdisciplinar y se propone esclarecer, mediante un estudio comparativo, los principales conflictos sociales que la historiografía ha destacado con más asiduidad en el Occidente tardorromano: bagaudas, circunceliones y priscilianistas. Asimismo, como herramienta metodológica de carácter analítico, haremos uso de las diversas aportaciones teóricas que, esencialmente desde la disciplina sociológica, se han ido configurando para interpretar el omnipresente fenómeno de la conflictividad social. Por su parte, rastrearemos a través de las fuentes la terminología empleada, ya sean éstas explícitas o implícitas, para tratar de profundizar en el complejo proceso que relaciona el registro de información histórica, la intencionalidad y el grado de subjetividad. Existen diversas razones que justifican la elaboración de esta investigación. 1) En primer lugar, la necesidad de un estudio exhaustivo que abordara de manera conjunta los nexos y las divergencias de tres movimientos tradicionalmente vinculados por la literatura científica. 2) En segundo lugar, la incorporación de diversos elementos analíticos procedentes de la teoría sociológica del conflicto a la investigación histórica de la Antigüedad puede aportar nuevos enfoques interpretativos hasta ahora desdeñados. 3) En tercer lugar, consideramos necesario un contacto directo con las fuentes que mantenga, sin embargo, un fuerte sentido de crítica y suspicacia con respecto a los autores, al contexto de creación y a las coyunturas ideológicas de plasmación, visiblemente apreciables en la terminología original. No existe una obra concreta dedicada en exclusividad al estudio comparativo de los tres fenómenos en cuestión, que aplique por su parte un enfoque analítico importado desde la sociología del conflicto y que se centre al mismo tiempo en la interpretación lexicológica de la terminología empleada en las fuentes originales...
This research is considered as an interdisciplinary work and it seeks to clarify, through a comparative study, the main social conflicts that historiography has most frequently emphasized in the late Roman West: bagaudae, circumcellions and priscillianists. Furthermore, as an analytical and methodological tool, this study makes use of the various theoretical contributions that, essentially from the sociological discipline, have been configured to interpret the omnipresent phenomenon of social conflict. It will trace the terminology used through the sources, explicit or implicit, in an attempt to examine the complex process that relates the record of historical information, intentionality and the degree of subjectivity. There are several reasons for this research. 1) Firstly, the need for an exhaustive study to jointly address the nexuses and divergences of three movements traditionally linked by scientific literature. 2) Secondly, the incorporation of various analytical elements from the sociological theory of conflict to the historical research of antiquity can provide new interpretative approaches that have been neglected until now. 3) Thirdly, we consider it necessary to have direct contact with the sources maintaining, however, a strong sense of criticism and suspicion with respect to the authors, the context of creation and the ideological conjunctures of embodiment, visibly appreciable in the original terminology. There is no concrete work devoted exclusively to the comparative study of the three phenomena in question, which applies an analytical approach imported from the sociology of conflict and which simultaneously focuses on the lexicological interpretation of the terminology used in the original sources. In order to respond to the proposed objectives, a purely historiographical research process has been designed, that will nevertheless provide analytical tools from other disciplines...
