Abstract
El trabajo que tiene en sus manos gira alrededor de dos ejes, dos temas que, por supuesto, convergen en un todo, y es la intención de las páginas subsiguiente demostrar que las dos preocupaciones de esta tesis forman parte de un todo: el posposmodernismo y David Foster Wallace. El posposmodernismo es la propuesta que sacamos a la palestra como sucesor del posmodernismo y la respuesta natural con la que los autores contemporáneos responden a los desafíos que el tardocapitalismo impone al ser humano. Por otro lado, intentaremos demostrar que las obras completas de David Foster Wallace le establecen como guía, como faro que brilla con especial intensidad en la neblina del existir actual, y hacen de su narrativa un asidero firme para comprender qué significa estar vivo en el siglo XXI. De este modo, partimos con la intención de profundizar en las tramas, preocupaciones, temáticas y respuestas que se esconden a lo largo y ancho de la narrativa del autor estadounidense. Uno de los objetivos de esta tesis consistirá en demostrar que Wallace, a lo largo de todos sus escritos, siempre estuvo movido idénticos temas, y que su producción se puede entender como un conjunto indisociable, como una larga batalla contra los mismos enemigos que libró desde su primer cuento publicado hasta su última e inconclusa novela: el solipsismo, la soledad,el entretenimiento y el aburrimiento, y trazaremos el periodo de maduración en sus respuestas. The dissertation you are about to read revolves around two topics, which, of course,converge into just one, and it is my intention to prove that they are both intermingled tothe bone: postpostmodernism and David Foster Wallace. On the one hand,postpostmodernism is our proposal as the successor to postmodernism, and the naturalresponse which contemporary authors adopt to try to find answers to the prevailing latecapitalism; on the other hand, we try to prove that the complete works of David FosterWallace make him a champion, a key author to move in the current fog and look for ahelpful answer to what it means to be alive in the 21st century. It’s our initial goal toanalyze in great depth the plots, concerns and themes that lie within the narrative of theNorth American author. The present thesis will try to prove that Wallace, throughout hisentire career, was moved by the same topics and concerns, that the corpus of hiswritings can be understood as a whole, a long battle against the same foes, namelysolipsism, loneliness, entertainment and boredom. His motives form an indivisiblewhole, a pattern of topics that appear since his very first published book until the lastpiece he was working on when he died, and we will try to assess how his answersshifted and matured thorough time.
