Abstract
El lenguaje ofensivo y tabú funciona como vehículo lingüístico que provee al espectador de información sobre los hablantes, la cual gira en torno al estado anímico, la clase social y el entorno cultural de los mismos. Cuando este tipo de lenguaje se presenta en forma de subtítulos, dichos términos suelen causar un impacto mayor en la audiencia (Díaz Cintas, 2001a) que aquellos que se presentan de forma oral. Es por esto que la subtitulación del lenguaje ofensivo y tabú es, por tanto, un tema delicado para los traductores. El presente artículo propone un modelo de análisis del lenguaje ofensivo/tabú en la subtitulación. Partiendo de un enfoque basado en los Estudios Descriptivos de Traducción (Toury, 1980), ahondando en las restricciones técnicas de esta modalidad de Traducción Audiovisual y haciendo uso de una metodología mixta o multi-estratégica (Robson, 2011), se pretende presentar una herramienta capaz de analizar este tipo de lenguaje con cualquier combinación lingüística a partir de diversos estudios descriptivos.
Offensive and taboo language functions as a linguistic vehicle which provides viewers with information on the speakers’ mood, social class and cultural background. When this type of langue is presented in subtitles, such terms tend to cause a bigger impact on the audience (Díaz Cintas, 2001a) than those presented in their oral form. The subtitling of offensive and taboo language is therefore a delicate matter to translators. The present paper proposes a model of analysis of offensive/taboo terms in subtitling. Rooted in the Descriptive Translation Studies paradigm (Toury, 1980), delving into the technical restrictions of this Audiovisual Translation mode and resorting to a mixed or multi-strategy method (Robson, 2011), the goal is to present a tool capable of analysing this type of langue with any language combination departing from diverse descriptive studies.
