Abstract
We discuss here the concepts of signs and symbols, to enter later in the war photography converted into symbolic. The core of the essay is to analyze the iconic photo of Robert Capa militiaman fallen in the Spanish Civil War, which shows that it was a theatrical pose and not a real death. After commenting on several Pulitzer prizes of photography, the ethical problem of photographic stagings is ended.
