Abstract
From the maternal model of the early Francoism to the neoliberal discourse of the “good mother”: full of grace and symbols you are, is a doctoral thesis that confronts the discursive ideal created around the grounding postulates of the femenine identity of the early Francoism (1939-1959), and the current “Good mother” paradigm, born as the outcome of the neoliberalism in the occidental Wellfare countries. We’ll see how both ideals are build around a specific historical, social, political and cultural context, but with a common denomination when it comes to the configuration of the female identity. Infinite things change and transform throughout the history; nevertheless, maternity and the collective worldview that conforms it seem to be intrinsically linked to a kind of mysticism that legitimates its presence. Keep in mind that in the early Francoism, women were adoctrinated to believe that the only purpose of their lives was to fulfill the ideal of the sacrificed and selfless maternity. Nowadays, we could easily think that, thanks to the democratic system and certain social revolutions that question every identitary paradigm, the situation has changed. However, we will analyze how National Catholicism’s demands to maternity are returning due to the confusion of values so characteristic of the neoliberal postmodernity. The mystique of maternity is more fierce than ever and it makes us believe that all past practices were better...
