Abstract
In this dissertation I’m going to search for the impulse that moves us to search for a cure to mortality despite the certainty of death, because through this exercise we are revealed to have a contradictory sense, a sense that is lost, with a value that is missing. The initial hypothesis is that through the act of living and dying the human condition is expressed, and despite our belief that there aren’t words to express it the intention is to analyze it, understand it and communicate it, for it seems important. The reason why I consider it relevant to analyze this act is because in my personal as well as professional experience, I have identified a sense that moves and pushes us to take care of the life that dies and I wonder about its value, its reason. While working with the Assisting Ethics Committee at a hospital I realized we were right to think about a life that dies, but such rightfulness escaped me. Why were we right to think and save life when we rightfully knew that life dies? In theory there is reason to do so but in practice, reason got lost and on the search for a cure we found anguish, frustration, conflict. Thus I started to wonder about our value for truth and to investigate our search for a cure, because I sensed it followed a logic of enthusiasm and depression that marked out existence. At first I started to observe the practice of medicine and study its current ethical codes, because on the one hand I suspected a relation between our «welfare state» with the «Nazi experiments» and on the other, I mistrusted the relationship between «philosophy of superman » and «death of God»...
