Abstract
Introduction: The evolution of the Cryosphere is closely related to the Earth's climate. The Cryosphere reflects with great sensitivity the changes in the climate and, in turn, the changes in the Cryosphere cause important variations in the climate of the Earth. In the last few decades the importance of this process of Cryosphere/Atmosphere interaction has been emphasized and it has been tried to know in detail the responses of the Cryosphere to external factors and the interrelationships of the elements that compose it. In this field of study, the contribution of Spanish science with great important researches in the polar, subpolar and high mountain areas of different latitudes has been highlighted. Within the Cryosphere, glaciers are one of its most important elements, and therefore, also one of the main objects of study, especially its dynamics, evolution and its different response to climate in different latitudes. Objectives: The main objective of this research is the analysis of several cases to observe the response of glaciers, with different characteristics and located in different latitudes, to changes in the climate and the conditioning factors and causes of this response. In order to achieve this general objective, a series of specific objectives have been proposed, such as: the analysis of glacial variations from the last glacial maximum to the present, both in its morphology and in the altitude of its equilibrium line altitude (ELA); to improve the detailed geomorphological cartography, adapting the legend to the study of the glacial landforms in mountain areas; from the detailed cartography, delimit the existing paleoglaciers in these mountains; to reconstruct the volumes of former glaciers through the application of numerical models; to calculate the altitude of the equilibrium lines of those former glaciers and deduce the climatic changes that have happened since the existence of these glaciers until present To complete the research, the variations in the surface of a debris-covered glacier and a rock glacier will be studied to find out how these type of glaciers react to climate change in recent decades...
