Abstract
Paciente infantil de 9 años y 3 meses de edad que presenta hábito de succión digital. Cefalométricamente es un paciente con crecimiento mesofacial, ligera clase II ósea de causa maxilar e incisivos superiores e inferiores proinclinados. Intraoralmente, al momento de la visita presentaba dentición mixta primera fase, con clase II dentaria bilateral e incompleta, sobremordida disminuida, resalte aumentado de 6 mm, diastema central interincisivo de 2,5 mm e hipertrofia del frenillo labial superior. El hábito de succión fue tratado con técnicas de modificación de hábitos y a continuación fue colocada una placa acrílica con arco deslizante para la corrección de la posición de los incisivos superiores. Tras 7 meses de seguimiento, el paciente ha eliminado el hábito de succión voluntario e involuntario. Además, se produjo la consolidación de la Clase I canina bilateral al restablecerse la intercuspidación del sector anterior y la correcta sobremordida de 1/3. El resalte disminuyó hasta un valor de 3 mm medido en mesial del 1.1 y 3,1 mm medido en mesial del 2.1. El diastema interincisivo igualmente se vio reducido a 0,7 mm. A pesar a estos resultados, el tratamiento no ha estado exento de inconvenientes. Las molestias ocasionadas por el roce del aparato con la mucosa bucal es uno de ellos. Es debido a esto que es necesario un correcto pulido y acabado del material acrílico, así como el uso de cera de ortodoncia para evitar la aparición de úlceras por fricción. Otro inconveniente en el tratamiento es que el aparato era removible y no fijo, por lo que se necesitaba una completa colaboración por parte del paciente, que en este caso fue adecuada.
