Abstract
War and peace exist interwovenly in human history. Military and diplomatic language, as a functional language, more accurately, is a political language. To a certain extent, it can reflect the evolution of social history. In language, vocabulary is most closely related to society. Understanding the evolution and development of military diplomacy vocabulary can help us understand the historical process. Military diplomacy vocabulary can carry history and reflect social reality. This is one of the centers of gravity in the study of the paper; In addition, by analyzing the military euphemism and dysphemism, and also by studying the application of military metaphor to other fields, it can reflect the cognition and attitude of mankind in today's world to war and peace. In war discourse, people tend to avoid sensitive sharp words related to wars, and use euphemisms. In other discourses, people prefer to use warmetaphors to highlight a situation to attract the attention of a recipient (a reader or an audience), and stimulate their mood and influence the public’s attitudes. The research in this thesis is finally applied to the discourse analysis. Through studying and analyzing related political and diplomatic military texts, we can find the real intention behind the speaker’s (politician’s) remarks. Our understanding of words is not limited to the superficial meaning of language, and we need to know its connotative meaning, and the interpretation of the language is finally implemented in the vocabulary, for vocabulary is the most basic carrier of social culture. The research in this thesis is conducted from the easy to the difficult and comlicated from the perspective of Lexicology and Cognitive Linguistics. Firstly, it studies the historical evolution of military diplomatic vocabulary. Secondly, it puts the military words into different contexts to analyze the phenomenon of word meaning transformation. Finally, it puts the vocabulary into a certain discourse for a whole analysis, and it is easy to understand and judge in the process of analysis combined with history and social reality. The purpose of this thesis is to grasp the life course of political and diplomatic vocabulary, understand the meaning of its use in different contexts, analyze and judge the real intention of military diplomatic discourse, cultivate people’s critical thinking, make them be good at thinking and have their own points of view, not blinded by surface phenomena, standardize the use of functional language at the same time, and make careful use of words in different contexts. Eventually, I hope to establish a bridge between Linguistics and military diplomacy, and study war and peace from the perspective of Linguistics, and get introspection from it. We call for world peace, but at the same time we need to know about war.
