Abstract
En los últimos años se ha abierto nuevamente un viejo debate. Las publicaciones de Ignacio Sánchez-Cuenca han puesto sobre la mesa el papel que algunos intelectuales están jugando en la difusión de ideas que son poco sostenibles cuando se las confronta con los hechos. De aquí se deriva una cuestión que, si no es novedosa es igualmente importante, a saber, la función de los intelectuales en la sociedad. Asimismo, este problema nos lleva a preguntarnos sobre el estatuto del intelectual, la de su naturaleza. Dicho de otra manera: ¿qué es un intelectual?, ¿qué es lo que hace del intelectual, un intelectual?, ¿dónde encuentra fundamento la verdad que enuncia y lo convierte en una autoridad? La propuesta que presentamos pretende abordar ese mismo problema a partir de la polémica surgida en Francia en los años 80 y que ha pasado a la historia con el nombre de “El silencio de los intelectuales”. Partiendo de la intervención de autores como Jean-François Lyotard, Maurice Blanchot y Michel Foucault, abordaremos las diferentes reflexiones que se desarrollan sobre la naturaleza del intelectual. El objetivo no es otro que aportar algunas claves al debate abierto en la actualidad por Sánchez-Cuenca.
In the last few years an old debate has been reopened. The publications of Ignacio Sánchez-Cuenca point out that some intellectuals are playing an important role spreading ideas which are hardly to defend when they are confronted with facts. This question gives rise to another one that is equally important, namely, the question about the function of the intellectuals in society. Also, this problem leads us to ask ourselves about the status of the intellectual. In other words, what is an intellectual? What makes an intellectual to be actually an intellectual? Where does the truth that he claims and turns him into an authority find ground? We will address this problem analyzing the controversy that emerged in France in the 80s and it is known as “The silence of the intellectuals”. We will approach to the different reflections about the nature of the intellectual through the work of authors such as Jean-François Lyotard, Maurice Blanchot and Michel Foucault. Doing so, we aim to provide some key elements in order to deal with the debate currently opened by Sánchez-Cuenca.
