Abstract
Blastocystis spp is a widely distribution worldwide protozoan, which colonizes the tracto intestinal of multiple organisms including humans. It is located in symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals, but it is still unknown if it has a pathogenic or commensal rol. The virulence of this protozoan is not only associated with the subtype, but also with the amoeboid form, the secretion of proteases and the co-infection with other pathogens. It is able to avoid the immune system, promote its survival and cause damage to the host through different mechanisms. Therefore, it seems to be involved in development of diseases such as chronic urticaria, "Blastocystosis" and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), in addition to promote carcinogenic processes.
