Abstract
Las complicaciones respiratorias son frecuentes y una causa mayor de morbilidad y mortalidad durante el postoperatorio; aumentan la estancia hospitalaria y encarecen el coste sanitario asociado a los procedimientos quirúrgicos. Durante la cirugía y el postoperatorio inmediato se producen cambios en la homeostasis respiratoria que alteran los volúmenes pulmonares y el transporte mucociliar normal favoreciendo el acumulo de secreciones y la aparición de atelectasias, creando un escenario ideal que da origen a las complicaciones postoperatorias. Las estrategias para reducir el riesgo de desarrollar complicaciones respiratorias postoperatorias comienzan antes de la cirugía con la preparación del paciente para afrontar el procedimiento y continúan en el periodo postoperatorio con maniobras de reexpansión pulmonar, asegurar un buen control del dolor e incentivar la deambulación precoz...
Pulmonary complications are frequent and a major cause of morbidity and mortality during the post-operative period; increase hospital stay and the cost of healthcare associated with surgical procedures. During surgery and the immediate post-operative period, changes in respiratory homeostasis modify lung volumes and normal mucociliary clearance that favors the accumulation of secretions and the appearance of atelectasis, creating an ideal scenario for postoperative complications. Strategies to reduce the risk of developing postoperative pulmonary complications begin prior to surgery with the preparation of the patient to face the procedure and continue in the post-operative period with pulmonary expansion maneuvers, pain control and encourage early ambulation. These strategies individually studied may not have significant benefits, but their combination seems to have a synergic and positive effect on the prevention of complications...
