Abstract
Enormemente conocida en sus partes, pero gran desconocida en su conjunto, la Historia del arzobispo de Toledo durante la Baja Edad se convierte en el eje sobre el que gira esta tesis doctoral, con el deseo de elaborar una obra de referencia y consulta de los aspectos centrales de su naturaleza, que vertebrarían un conocimiento a nivel eclesiástico y religioso lo suficientemente pleno de este extensísimo arzobispado de forma conjunta, y no de alguna de sus partes como se ha hecho hasta ahora, quizá debido precisamente a esa extensión que abarca la totalidad de tres provincias actuales y partes de otras tantas, además del alcance jurisdiccional que tuvo sobre otros territorios como sede de una gran provincia eclesiástica y como titulares de la primacía de las Españas. No es nuestro exclusivo objetivo, además, ofrecer nuestro análisis sobre los conceptos que consideramos vitales para entender la marcha religiosa e institucional del arzobispado, sino estructurarlo de forma ordenada para futuros investigadores...
The history of the Archbishop of Toledo during the Late Middle Ages is extremely wellknownin parts, but largely unknown as a whole. It is this axis that led to this doctoralthesis, whose objective is to create a work that will become a consultative referencepoint on the central aspects of his nature, as well as the backbone of a sufficientlycomplete knowledge of this far-reaching Archbishop, at an ecclesiastical and religiouslevel, and to provide a coordinated work rather than just one of its parts, as has beendone until now. This may be due to this far-reaching nature, which covers the whole ofthree current provinces and parts of some others, as well as the jurisdictional reach thathe had over other territories as the See of a large ecclesiastical province and as supremeprimate of the Hispanic territories. Additionally, our objective is not only to offer ouranalysis of the concepts that we consider essential for understanding the Archbishop’sreligious and institutional direction, but to structure this in an orderly manner for thebenefit of future researchers...
