Abstract
La biografía de fray Luis de León (ca. 1527-1591) resulta bien conocida en sus aspectos básicos. En la formación intelectual confluyen tres vías: la agustiniana, la salmantina y la alcalaína, esto es, filosofía, teología escolástica, santos padres, principalmente San Agustín, lenguas clásicas y bíblicas y otras ciencias humanas. Cada una de ellas aporta sus propias peculiaridades que forjan la personalidad de fray Luis de León, siendo un rasgo de no menor importancia su faceta de traductor e intérprete bíblico. Ésta no puede comprenderse en sus justos términos sin enmarcarla dentro del momento histórico en el que vive y del proceso formativo al que se vio sometido el propio fray Luis de León. Una influencia decisiva tendrá, pues, la Orden de San Agustín, las Universidades de Salamanca y Alcalá, centro universitario en el que realizó un curso de Biblia, y amplió la formación humana y literaria.
The biography of Fray Luis de León (ca. 1527-1591) is well known in its basic aspects. In intellectual formation three paths converge: the Augustinian, the Salamanca and the Alcalaine, that is, philosophy, scholastic theology, holy fathers, mainly Saint Augustine, classical and biblical languages and other human sciences. Each one of them contributes its own peculiarities that forge the personality of Fray Luis de León, a feature of no less importance being his role as biblical translator and interpreter. This cannot be understood in its fair terms without framing it within the historical moment in which he lives and the formative process to which Fray Luis de León himself was subjected. A decisive influence will have, then, the Order of Saint Augustine, the Universities of Salamanca and Alcalá, a university center where he took a course in the Bible, and expanded human and literary training.
